DR ensures that IT services designated by the University as crucial for operation can be restored and delivered remotely if a catastrophic event occurs. 

This year, we are transitioning our DR environment from the state-operated Groton data center to Microsoft Azure.  Moving to Azure provides us with greater flexibility and more options for recovering and operating critical services during a disaster, while reducing our reliance on a secondary physical data center.

The University has determined that the following on-premises services should be included in DR: Student Administration, Web Services (uconn.edu and Aurora/WordPress services), and NetID and account creation services.

We annually test our DR plan, and this year’s test will begin on Sunday, October 18th. Starting at 9:00 a.m., we will simulate an active DR event by transitioning workloads from our Storrs data center to Microsoft Azure.  On Wednesday, October 21st, all workloads will be transferred back to Storrs starting at 5:00 p.m., and the test will conclude that night.  The tested services will be unavailable for up to eleven hours during each migration.  ITS will maintain up-to-date information about any service disruptions on the IT status page (itstatus.uconn.edu).
