Updates to Management of Apple Devices

Mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, have become ubiquitous, and our community utilizes them for a wide variety of tasks.  Properly managing these devices is critical to safely and securely supporting individual productivity and efficiency.  In response, Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms have evolved to remotely deploy operating systems, policies, applications, and patches.  They greatly enhance the effective management of mobile devices, which helps ensure the security of confidential and personally identifiable information.

ITS uses the Jamf MDM platform to provision and maintain Apple equipment in our workstation management program.  We recently migrated our Jamf Pro on-premises server to a cloud-based instance.  This substantially improves our ability to support devices irrespective of location.  Yesterday we implemented Jamf Connect, which integrates local macOS accounts with individual Microsoft accounts.  These changes are part of our ongoing evolution of existing device management tools and capabilities.  They simplify and improve infrastructure management for ITS while providing a better, more flexible experience for customers.
