ChatGPT Available to UConn Faculty and Staff

ChatGPT licenses are now available to UConn faculty and staff through Information Technology Services (ITS). Through an official agreement with OpenAI, the organization that developed ChatGPT, the license ensures secure and compliant use of university data within the ChatGPT environment.

With your ChatGPT license, you can enter or upload information into the model securely, and it will look at public web data. It will not use personal files that you haven’t uploaded, like OneDrive, email, or any files on your desktop.

If you currently have a paid ChatGPT account directly with OpenAI that you use for institutional activities, you will be required to transition to a university license. You will have the option to either export your existing data or transfer it directly into your new UConn account. We will email existing account owners and provide additional information and instructions on how to migrate your account.

All University ChatGPT licenses, new and transfers, must be purchased directly from software.uconn.edu and require a KFS account number. If you are transferring your existing non-UConn subscription to the UConn licenses, you will receive a refund for any remaining balance by OpenAI.

If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Technology Support Center.
