Windows 10 End of Support

The Windows 10 operating system (OS) will be out of support starting October 14, 2025. Microsoft will stop providing updates, support, or security fixes for devices running the legacy OS, and the devices will be vulnerable to security threats. Risks will only increase with continued use and could adversely affect the University’s network. ITS may take measures, such as device isolation, to protect enterprise infrastructure.

Our systems have detected that approximately 1000 managed devices in our network continue to run Windows 10 and must be upgraded before support ends.  Some devices, however, cannot be upgraded successfully to Windows 11 due to hardware limitations. These devices should be replaced.

ITS will begin directly contacting faculty and staff who have university-owned devices running Windows 10 next week. Messaging will ask them to contact the Technology Support Center for assistance. Technicians will route the ticket to the appropriate support team and determine why a device has not been upgraded.

We want to make you aware of this messaging in case you’re asked to assist. ITS will offer two cycles of the University PC Refresh Program before October if a device purchase is required: kb.uconn.edu/space/IKB/10853879237/University+PC+Refresh+Program
