Changes to the University’s UPrint Program

The UPrint program was originally developed by University Business Services’ Purchasing Department to replace the high number of small, cost ineffective printers at UConn with fewer large, multi-function, high duty cycle printers. The program provides centralized management of printing services for departments and includes acquisition of equipment and supplies, maintenance, and billing.  This transition to better, more efficient printers and effective acquisition coordination with external vendors substantively reduces total costs.  However, it has become apparent over time that ongoing management of the program requires greater technical oversight and support.

ITS, in consultation with Purchasing, has accepted management of the UPrint program to oversee this technology-related contract and provide technical support for the university community.   We are working closely with the existing vendor to document existing inventory and current usage.  We are reaching out to departments with this information and encouraging them to eliminate printers with low usage to reduce monthly costs.   We are also working with Purchasing to develop the new contract.   In the coming months, we will contact departments to refresh equipment where appropriate.  This will ensure that devices will continue to be secure and compatible with our environment.

More information about the UPrint program is available on the UConn Knowledge Base, or you can reach out directly to the program administrator at uprint@uconn.edu.
