Web Conferencing Security

ITS supports the following web conferencing solutions: Microsoft Teams, Blackboard Collaborate, Google Hangouts, and WebEx.  The first three require attendees to authenticate for access and have settings that allow hosts to manage internal and external participants (e.g., turn off guest access, mute or expel disruptive attendees).  The fourth, WebEx, is a secure application, but authentication can be left disabled, and intrusions can occur if someone unintended uses a shared link to an open meeting.  Unfortunately, this has already happened, and it encouraged us to auto-lock personal meeting rooms so that participation will now require admission by the meeting host.  More information about videoconferencing platforms and how to manage meetings is available on the IT Knowledge Base.

Please report incidents or service issues to techsupport@uconn.edu, and do not hesitate to contact us directly with comments, questions, or concerns.
