New email security features

Message encryption and rights management is preliminarily available on the university’s Office 365 email system.   Messages sent within the institutional Office 365 system are encrypted by default, but this does not apply when they are sent to external systems, such as Google Apps for students. Also, the existing system does not allow the sender to apply receiver based controls or restrictions.  Based on feedback from our community, ITS has enabled these new email security features.  Additional encryption capabilities and specific rights management features are designed to provide useful options for emailing sensitive information.  We will announce their availability to the UConn community soon, but while we prepare documentation to support broad usage, we want to give you the opportunity to begin using both.  Basic support material is posted on the Office 365 site under Security Features: office365.uconn.edu.  We welcome and encourage your feedback and suggestions.
