HuskyVision switching to digital

HuskyVision will be transferred from analog to digital broadcast television for the fall semester.

Digital cable television is superior to analog with higher definition and improved sound quality.  The Federal Communications Commission mandated the transition from analog to digital for all full-power television stations by June 2009 and for low-power stations by September 2015.  HuskyVision, the Storrs campus cable television service, and other private systems were excluded from this requirement, but we are pursuing this change to bring the full benefits of contemporary TV service to the university.  The majority of televisions manufactured after 2007 have built-in digital tuners and are compliant with current digital standards.  Older, analog televisions will require a digital-to-analog converter box.  The official date of this transition has not been ratified, but we will provide additional information as contract details are finalized by Charter and University Purchasing.
