UConn AnyWare is an ITS service that provides desktop virtualization using VMWare Horizon and application virtualization of university-licensed software using Citrix Virtual Apps. We recently deployed a new version of Virtual Apps to meet application demand from remote students. The updated environment has improved performance, new features, and enhanced security. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, but our community often shares that the distinction between desktop and application virtualization is unclear. ITS has elected to reconcile these differences and provide a unified desktop experience through Citrix. Starting on May 28, the community will see a single UConn AnyWare login button, as opposed to one for Desktop and one for Apps. Customers will still need to download and install “Workspace App” if they prefer to use the client form of the service. A link to VMware Horizon will remain underneath the main login button for customers who still have virtual desktops in the legacy environment.
