Up-to-date software and operating systems (OS) on workstations are essential for secure, robust IT operations. Vendors release updates to address security vulnerabilities that might be exploited and cause system-wide compromises. Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and will no longer provide even security patches for this version of the OS. Unpatched computers represent substantive risk to the University, and this necessitates a comprehensive upgrade of all university-owned computers from Windows 7 to Win10, the latest version of the OS. ITS and local IT professionals will collaborate to identify and update outdated computers before January. We appreciate the support of all IT professionals at UConn and the help maintaining a safe network.
